Why do I paint whimsical and spooky nature art?

Short answer? I’m weird HAHAH.

Real answer? I absolutely love nature, being outside, the flowers, the birds chirping, playing in the dirt, but not some of the bugs… especially the bitey ones. I’ve always loved being outside. Playing, going for walks, adventuring through the woods and camping.

I paint whimsical and spooky because that’s just who I am. I like to look to the magical side of the world, the enchanting dance of the lightning bugs, the entrancing songs of the birds and even the calming sounds of the water and the wind.

I’ve always been a little different than most. I was never a girly girl and didn’t quite fit in. I wasn’t popular, though a lot of people knew me in school, for better or for worse.

I truly paint what I paint because I wanted better spooky decor than what is offered at the box stores and only comes out around Halloween. I figured if I like it, others might too.

The trick at feeling fulfilled when you are creating is to create something that resonates with yourself. If you only paint what others want you to paint, you’ll grow to hate your craft and no amount of money is worth that heartbreak.

When I started my art business ventures, I started by painting pet portraits and what I thought others would like. Stuff that I would never hang in my own house and even stole some ideas from others. Well, that failed… horribly. When I was almost ready to give up on this whole dream of becoming a full time artist, I decided to shift and start painting what I wanted to paint and now I’m here.

I’m not going to say that I’m “making it”, but I sure feel a whole lot more desire to paint and create than I used to.

I hope this inspires you to start following your heart and create something that you want to create and not what others want you to create. Life is too short to only make others happy.
